Circuit Breaker

WTAIELE manufactures miniature, residual current, moulded case and smart circuit breakers for AC and DC distribution, from 6 A to a 250 A frame.

MCB, RCCB, MCCB or Smart: Matching the Breaker to the Circuit

The breaker follows the circuit, and the circuit type decides the family. Final circuits for lighting and sockets take a miniature breaker: DZ47-63 up to 63 A, DZ47-125 up to 100 A. Where the circuit needs earth leakage protection as well as overload protection, DZ47LE adds residual current sensing at 30, 100 or 300 mA.

Feeders and mains take a moulded case breaker, because a miniature frame no longer has the current capacity or the breaking capacity. WTCM1-250 covers AC feeders, and WTM1-250 covers DC feeders up to 1500 V. DC final circuits use WTM7-63, which is rated by pole count.

Smart breakers answer a different question: they replace a standard two-pole breaker where the site needs metering and remote switching, not where the fault level is higher. WTB2-80ML covers 32 A to 80 A with WiFi or 4G.

BEFORE YOU ORDER

Breaking Capacity, Curve and Pole Count

Breaking capacity is the first number that gets missed. It is the fault current the breaker can interrupt, and it has to exceed the prospective fault current at the board. A 4.5 kA breaker on a board with a 10 kA fault level will not clear the fault safely, however correct the current rating looks.
The curve is the second. B suits lighting and long cables, C suits motors and mixed loads, and D suits welders and transformers with high inrush. A B curve on a compressor trips on a healthy start; the fix is the curve, not a bigger breaker.
The pole count is the third. A 1P+N device breaks the live pole and switches the neutral without a rated breaking capacity in it. A 2P device breaks both poles. Where the neutral must be isolated, 2P is the answer.
Send the fault level with the circuit list and the first choice is already narrowed.

Frequently Asked Questions

An RCCB protects a group of circuits against earth leakage but has no overcurrent protection, so each circuit still needs an MCB. An RCBO combines both in one device, which takes less space and clears only the faulted circuit, but costs more per way.
