4-POLE CONTACTORS
4-Pole Contactors for Neutral Switching and Two-Circuit Control
A four-pole contactor has a fourth set of main contacts, rated for the same current as the other three. That fourth pole is what lets one device switch three phases plus neutral, or two separate single-phase circuits at once.
The CJX2 04 series covers 12, 25, 65 and 95 A with 690 V rated insulation, and the CJX2-F frames add 185, 225 and 400 A where the load is heavier. Coil options are AC 24, 36, 48, 110, 220 and 380 V.
The common mistake is using the fourth pole for a neutral that carries no current and assuming it is rated for the full load. It is rated, but it still has to be sized for whatever current actually flows through it. Units carry CE and CCC marking.
4-Pole Contactor Models
Four CJX2 04 frames cover 12 A to 95 A and three CJX2-F frames extend the range to 400 A. Confirm the coil voltage and the auxiliary contacts before ordering.

Wiring notes
On a three-phase motor the fourth pole is usually spare; leave it unconnected rather than using it as an earth, because the contactor is not an earthing device.
For two single-phase circuits, check that both poles in each pair carry the same current; the rating applies per pole, not per pair.
US and Canadian panels often ask for a 120 V coil; our closest standard coils are 110 V and 220 V, so confirm the control transformer before ordering.
Send the panel drawing and the coil voltage, and we will confirm the frame, the coil code and the auxiliary block.
NEUTRAL SWITCHING
Where the Fourth Pole Earns Its Cost
Neutral or Second Circuit
Decide which one before the frame is chosen; the wiring and the current per pole are different.
Per Pole, Not Per Pair
Each pole is rated individually. Both poles feeding one single-phase circuit must be able to carry that current.
Not an Earth
The fourth pole is a switching contact. The protective earth stays a separate, unswitched conductor.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
It switches three phases plus neutral, or two separate single-phase circuits, through one device. It is used where the neutral has to be isolated with the phases, and in panels that control two loads together.
The coil pulls one armature that closes all four contact sets together. The fourth pole is mechanically linked to the others, so it closes and opens at the same time as the three main poles.
Yes. Leave the fourth pole unconnected. The frame is slightly larger than a three-pole unit in the same current class, so it costs more and takes more panel space, but it works.
Use a frame rated at least 40 A at AC-3, such as CJX2-5011 at 50 A or CJX2-6504 at 65 A for four-pole work. Motor starting current is six to eight times running current, so a 40 A frame is often too close to the load.
Terminals are marked per pole, L1-T1, L2-T2, L3-T3 and L4-T4. The coil is on A1 and A2. For three-phase plus neutral, the neutral goes through the fourth pole; for two single-phase circuits, each pair of poles feeds one circuit.
No. A contactor pole is a switching contact, not a protective earth connection. The earth conductor must be a separate, continuous connection that is never switched.
