Solar Energy Equipments

WTAIELE supplies solar balance-of-system equipment: MC4 connectors, DC fuses, surge protection, boxes and transfer switches for PV installations.

What Goes on Each Side of the Inverter

A solar installation is easier to specify side by side with the inverter. On the DC side, the array needs connectors at the module leads, fuses where strings are paralleled, a DC surge device at the entry point, and a DC breaker or isolator for service work. Those parts are here: MC4 and MC4H connectors, WTDS 10×38 mm fuses, WTSP-D40 surge protection and WTM7-63 breakers.

On the AC side, the inverter output needs its own breaker and, where the site is exposed, an AC surge device. WTSP-A40 covers that side.

The rest of the category is the infrastructure around the array rather than the PV circuit itself: WT-HT surface boxes, Q3R and Q5 transfer switches where a generator backs the building, and WTXU and WTKA relays that monitor the supply the inverter runs on.

Ratings That Have to Match Each Other

The parts on a solar installation fail at the joints between them, not usually inside them. A string fuse chosen without checking the cable ampacity protects nothing; a fuse above the cable rating lets the cable burn before the fuse clears.
The DC surge device has the same problem with voltage. The rating has to cover the array open-circuit voltage at the coldest morning the site will see, because Voc rises as temperature falls. A device rated at the nominal string voltage is under-rated in winter.
The breaker and the fuse also have different jobs. Fuses protect each string against reverse current and cannot be switched. A breaker adds the isolation point, and its pole count follows the system voltage rather than the current.
Send the array layout and the string voltage, and the ratings can be checked against each other before anything is ordered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Connectors at the module leads, fuses where more than two strings are paralleled, a DC surge device at the point where the cables enter the building, and a DC breaker or isolator for service work. The array voltage decides the ratings of the surge device and the breaker.
