10×38 mm DC Fuses for Solar String Protection
A DC fuse in a solar array does one job: if one string faults, the other strings in parallel will push current into it, and the fuse is what stops that reverse current before the cable is damaged. Without fuses, a single fault can take out a whole array's wiring.
WTDS fuses use the 10×38 mm cylindrical body, which fits standard holders and the MC4H in-line fuse connector. The WTDS-32 is rated 32 A, the common size for one string of modern modules.
The rating is chosen from the string current and the cable ampacity, with allowance for the higher temperature inside a combiner box. Units carry CE and CCC marking.
Sizing a String Fuse

- Use the module data sheet: short-circuit current and maximum series fuse rating are printed there.
- Derate for heat. A fuse inside a sealed combiner runs hotter and carries less; the manufacturer’s derating curve applies.
- Match the holder. The 10×38 mm body only fits holders and connectors made for that size.

Frequently Asked Questions
Start from the module short-circuit current and the maximum series fuse rating on the data sheet, then pick a rating above the string current and below the cable ampacity. A 32 A fuse is common for a single string of modern modules, but the data sheet governs.
A DC fuse is built to interrupt a fault current that never crosses zero, so it has a different element and arc-quenching filling. An AC fuse of the same current rating is not a safe substitute on a DC string.
Yes. The 10×38 mm fuse only works in a matching holder, either in a combiner or in the MC4H in-line connector. A fuse clipped to a cable is not an installation.
Because a fault in one string let the other strings feed current into it, or because the fuse was undersized for the actual string current. Replace the fuse only after finding which of those two it was.
