MC-85a Magnetic Contactor 85A for 45kW Motors on 380/400V Panels
The MC-85a is a three-pole magnetic contactor for motor and resistive loads in low voltage distribution panels. Its 135A thermal frame and 220V AC coil suit panel builders who are moving up from a 40A frame and need a single device for pumps, fans, compressors and conveyors in the 45kW class.
Current at Each Voltage Band
AC-3 rated current is 85A at 220-240V and 380-400V, 75A at 500-550V and 45A at 660-690V. Conventional thermal current is 135A, so the contactor also carries AC-1 loads such as resistive heaters and lighting banks with margin to spare.
The Same 45kW Above 380V
Motor rating is 25kW (35HP) at 220-240V and 45kW (60HP) from 380-400V through 500-550V and 660-690V. The kW figure holds while the ampere figure falls from 85A to 45A, so match the contactor to the motor nameplate kW and the supply voltage, then confirm the ampere figure.
Auxiliary Contacts and Coil Wiring
Two NO and two NC auxiliary contacts are fitted as standard on this frame, one step up from the 1NO+1NC arrangement on the smaller MC sizes. They are rated 1.6A at 220-240V and 0.95A at 380-440V under AC-15 with 16A thermal current, enough for hold-in circuits, lamps and interlocking. The 220V AC coil works on 50Hz and 60Hz supplies, and extra side blocks can be added when a panel needs more signals.
Terminals, Mounting and Mechanical Life
Main terminals are marked R/1/L1, S/3/L2 and T/5/L3 on the line side and U/2/T1, V/4/T2 and W/6/T3 on the load side. Rated insulation voltage is 690V and mechanical life reaches 10 million operations, with DIN rail or screw fixing for panel assembly.
