40A 2 Pole Definite Purpose Contactor
The 40 FLA frame two pole contactor steps up to 240A locked rotor at 240/277V and uses box lug terminals for the heavier wire. It is the size used for larger single phase compressors and for resistive banks above the 30 FLA range.
Contact Rating Per Pole
Per pole the rating is 40 FLA and 240A LRA at 240/277V, 40 FLA and 200A LRA at 480V, and 40 FLA and 160A LRA at 600V. The resistive rating is 50A resistive per pole, up from 40A on the smaller frame.
Coil and Control
The unit ships with a 208-240VAC 50/60Hz coil, and 24, 120 and 480VAC coils are available in the same frame. Coil terminals are separate spade tabs marked A1 and A2.
Terminals and Mounting
Main terminals are box lugs rather than screw terminals, which matches the wire sizes used from 40 FLA upward. The NEMA mounting base keeps the same bracket pattern, and NO or NC end switch kits can be added.
Life and Ambient Range
Life rating is 100,000 or 250,000 cycles depending on version, with an operating range of -40 to +150 degrees F, or -40 to +65 degrees C. Tell us the FLA, coil voltage and pole count and we will confirm the model.
