WTDS DC Fuse 1000V DC for PV Array Outputs
The WTDS is the fuse that protects the DC output of a photovoltaic array, in the currents a large installation carries rather than the currents of a single string. The link is a blade type part that sits in a bolt in base, and the pair is rated 1000V DC and 50kA.
Four Frames From 160A to 630A
Four frame sizes cover the usual array output currents. The 160 frame takes 63, 80, 100 and 160A links. The 250 frame runs from 80A to 250A. The 400 frame takes 250, 315 and 400A, and the 630 frame takes 400, 500 and 630A. Choosing a frame is a question of the link size plus the cable lug that has to land on the base.
50kA Breaking Capacity
Breaking capacity is what separates a DC fuse from a part that merely looks like one. A photovoltaic array keeps feeding a fault while the sun is up, and the fault current at the output of a large array is high. A link rated 50kA at 1000V DC clears that current instead of rupturing its own body. The link in the photo is marked gPV 1000V DC with a 50kA breaking capacity.
Link and Base
The link is a blade type body with the rating printed on the barrel, and it clamps into the base on two studs. The base is the part that is wired, so a blown link is replaced without touching the cable lugs, which is the reason the two part arrangement is used at these currents. The link body carries CE marking.
Choosing the Rating
Size the link from the continuous current of the circuit it protects, with the usual step above the working current, and check the base against the cable size the installer is landing. The fuse protects the cable and the array wiring, so the link rating and the cable ampacity are read together.
