WTC1-C 800V 3P DC Surge Protection Device for Floating PV Arrays
The WTC1-C 800V 3P protects the DC side of an ungrounded array at the 800V voltage class. Three modules sit on one base and clip onto DC+, PE and DC-, so a surge on either polarity has a short path to the earth bar instead of travelling through the inverter input.
Why the Third Pole Matters
On a floating array neither polarity is bonded to earth, so a two-pole device only limits the difference between DC+ and DC-. The third pole limits the difference between each polarity and earth as well, which is the configuration most inverters with an unearthed DC input ask for.
800V Uc, 1060V Un
Maximum continuous voltage is 800Vdc and rated voltage is 1060Vdc, so the modules sit quiet on a working string and still hold at the open circuit voltage of a cold array. In and Imax are 20kA and 40kA at 8/20µs per pole, and residual voltage stays at or below 3.8kV.
Plug-in Modules on One Base
Each pole is a separate plug-in cartridge on a common base, so a spent module is replaced in the field without disturbing the string wiring. The earth pole lands on the PE bar with the shortest lead you can run, because every extra centimetre of cable adds to the let-through voltage at the inverter.
Type 2 and Status Windows
Modules are marked Type 2 and each one has a status window that changes when the cartridge is done, so a walk round the combiner box tells you whether protection is still in place. The body is IP20 finger-safe. Send your string voltage, array earthing arrangement and quantity to WTAIELE for a quote.
